”Treasury is viewed as a specialist function. How can treasurers move up towards the more general management positions – or even becoming a CFO?”

Simon Hesse Hoffman, who will lead the Treasury 360 Copenhagen conference on May 9th, sees plenty of opportunity for initiative by professionals in the corporate treasury community.

Becoming a partner to many

”The treasury function in corporates is in a transformation from being generally viewed as a support function, towards being involved as financial business partner. This includes involvement in group projects and investments earlier, and sparring with other functions such as procurement, HR and sales,” says Simon Hesse Hoffmann.

”They can also help bring focus on key financials and setting better financial project KPIs.”

Heads a children’s charity

Simon Hesse Hoffmann speaks based on his experiences not only in senior treasury positions – such as at shipping company DFDS – but also as advisor, and member on several boards. He has recently become the chairman of SMILfonden, a charity for children with serious illness.

The conference will look into various situations where treasurers meet their counter-parties both inside and outside their corporations. It will discuss how CFOs work to anchor treasury and finance functions in their groups. Also, one session will let bank representatives describe how they prepare for negotiations with treasuries. In turn, those insights are intended to help treasurers tackle them right.
