Cyber threats come in so many forms

Payment fraud and cybersecurity risks was the topic for an afternoon panel in Thursday’s digital Treasury 360° Oslo conference. Growing ransomware activity is one danger to watch.

Panelists were
Carl Olsson, head of compliance and AML with TietoEVRY,
Karl-Henrik Sundberg of solution provider OpusCapita, and
Erik Blomberg, CISO of Handelsbanken.

The trend towards faster payments is but one of the many, many factors challenging traditional measures to brake criminal activities. The approach that “if something is unclear, give them a call,” doesn’t really solve everything any more.

Erik Blomberg singled out ransomware attacks as the prime threat at this very point in time. Yet he also warned of cyber attacks, for example on banks – possibly geo-politically motivated.

“If you attack something that is connected you can create a lot of disruption.

Continuity plans and crisis plans are important.”

The session was moderated by Beatrice Wassing, head of transaction banking sales and implementation at Handelsbanken Capital Markets, who was also the overall moderator of the full-day conference.
