News site Realtid has spoken with Eirik Winter, head of BNP Paribas Group Nordic Region, about the forward move.

Attractive private equity landscape

He lists three chief drivers behind it: the high proportion of global corporates, a strong and trigger-happy private equity community that needs capital support, and finally a lot of start-ups not least in fintech.

”The bank has made a top-management decision that the Nordics should be a priority area,” says Eirik Winter to Realtid.

Experienced recruits

Eirik Winter took over the area in April 2018 and has since recruited about 20 people. The six seniors among them are named in a press release from the bank: Kjartan Bru from DNB Bank, Sophie Franklin from Deutsche Bank, Alexander Jansen from Goldman Sachs, David Kalis and Claudine Smith from Nordea, and Andre Rhodin from Citi.

He emphasizes that the presence is not new, though.

”Those in place since before make a very strong team. This is about complementing and filling certain gaps. I have inherited a really good bunch of people,” says Eirik Winter to Realtid.
